Product Description

The RA-620 Refractometer is the ideal choice for quick and reliable measurements of liquid samples with a refractive index in the range between 1.32 and 1.70.

This instrument is ideally suited for the quality control and concentration measurements in the pharmaceutical, chemical, aroma, flavor and fragrance and petrochemical industry. It conforms to the specific requirements, methods (like US, European Japanese and UK Pharmacopoeia), norms (like ASTM 1218) and regulations of these industries.

Maximal efficiency with minimal space requirements:
The RA-620 fits on a standard A4 page.

Premium quality:
High-grade aluminium casing – no plastic.

Optimal ease of use
thanks to a large color touch screen and sophisticated barcode features.

Comfortable handling through ergonomically favorable design
The shallow and therefore easy to clean measuring cell is located in front of the display. The sample cover, when opened, protects the display against splashes.

Quick and highly accurate temperature control
in the range of 5 to 75°C by means of a solid state thermostate developed based on KEM’s long lasting expertise in thermal conductivity measurement. Highly accurate measurements only take a few seconds to perform.

Extremely simple user guidance ensures fail safe operation
Visual indication of concentration ranges, easy to follow step-by-step guide for calibrations and the visual representation of the Abbe image to get aware of problematic samples or insufficient cleaning are just a few examples of the features which ensure reliable results.

Ideally suited for concentration measurements
In addition to the already bulit-in scales up to 100 concentration tables can be stored in the instrument.

Hassle-free, operating system independent connection to PC – no special software required.
Whether you are using Windows, OSX or Linux: All you need to control the instrument and to collect the measuring data is your preferred Web browser like Firefox, Google Chrome or Internet Explorer. If you do not want to connect your instrument directly to a PC, measuring data can easily be transferred by means of an USB memory stick.

DCU-551N Auto Clean and Sampling Unit

DCU-551N Auto Clean and Sampling Unit for 20 ml vials

The DCU-551N does not only save operators a great deal of work, it enhances at the same time safety in the working place and significantly increases the reproducibility and accuracy of measurement especially when non homogeneous, highly viscous, volatile hygroscopic or toxic samples must be measured.

  • Powerful cleaning and drying of the measuring cell and the tubing after each measurement.
  • Sampling by overpressure. Advantages:
    • High availability, low maintenance as the sampling pump is contacted by dry air only.
    • Handles even highly viscous samples with a viscosity of up to 30’000 mPa·s.
    • Automatic sample recovery.

DCU-551SS Auto Clean and Sampling Unit for 8 ml vials

The DCU-551SS sample changer allows to measure samples in 9 ml vials. All the other characteristics are the same as the ones of the DCU-551N.

A measuring system consisting of an RA-620 Refractometer and a DCU-551N Auto Clean and Sampling Unit is the ideal solution for highly accurate Brix measurements of syrups and moisture content determinations in glycerol.

In the petrochemical industry, the DCU-551 increases the operational and occupational safety, as operators do not get in direct contact with toxic solvents.

Soft Cap Data Capture Software

SOFT CAP Data Capture Software

The easy way to transfer your results directly to Microsoft EXCEL

The Data Capture Software is an easy to use and flexible solution to collect measurement results from different KEM instruments (Refractometers, Density Meters, Potentiometric or Karl-Fischer Titrators, Thermal Conductivity Meters) on a Windows personal computer.

  • Up to four different instruments can be connected to one single PC and be used simultaneously. Two of these instruments can be of the same model.
  • The results can directly be stored in EXCEL workbooks. The measured results are always available at a glance in a clear and concise manner.
    • As soon as a measurement has finished, the result appears in the corresponding worksheet.
    • The layout, order and the format how the results are stored in EXCEL can freely be adapted to specific needs.
    • Results can be automatically be processed by EXCEL macros as they are transmitted to the PC. Additional data (comments, sample data, etc.) can be entered at any time by means of the PC keyboard or a barcode reader.
  • All results can at the same time be stored in as CSV files.

Liquid Refractive Index and Brix Standards

JCSS Logo

KEM does not only supply refractometers, it has was well a JCSS (Japan Calibration Service System) Accredited Calibration Laboratory (assessed on JIS Q 17025:2000 (ISO/IEC 17025:1999) where a wide range of certified refractive index standard reference material is produced. KEM has the JCSS accreditation number 0115. The refractive index of these standards is determined with a laser interferometer. All standards come with a certificate bearing the JCSS symbol which assures their traceability to National Measurement Standards of Japan which are recognized worldwide through the ILAC and APLAC MRA.

Certified Refractive Index Standard Reference Material

The refractive index standard reference material is always supplied as a set of two 10 mL vials: 1 vial of standard reference material water and one vial of standard reference material with a different refractive index (organic solvent). The refractive index standard reference material has a shelf life of 12 months.  The certified Brix standard reference material is supplied in sets of two 10 mL vials. This type of standard reference material has a shelf life of 1 month only.
