Product Description

Reliable, compact and ergonomic:
The portable DA-130 density/specific gravity meter is an ideal tool for quick and accurate measurements of liquids of different viscosities. The well though-out design of its sampling mechanism ensures hassle-free filling and quick and reliable cleaning of the measuring cell. In spite of its compact size and low weight the DA-130 offers many features you would expect only from a bench top unit.

The ideal choice for many applications
Be it API degrees, Brix, Proof, Plato, Baumé , sulphuric acid concentration or simply density or specific gravity: The DA-130N displays the results directly in the desired unit and automatically converts the result to the reference temperature.

Full-fledged data handling
The DA-130 can not only store up to 1100 measurement results in its internal memory, it stores these values together with sample identifications and the date and time when the measurements have been performed. Thanks to a built-in IrDA interface, measured results can be transmitted to a printer or a personal computer at anytime.

Easy operation
A graphical backlit display and an intuitive menu structure provide an easy operation and a clear visualization of the measured values.

Long battery life
In addition to a low power consumption and an automatic power off function an excellent visibility of the measuring cell ensures a long battery life: With the DA-130 there is no need to activate any power-hungry illumination to detect air bubbles or contamination in the measuring cell.

Hassle-free sampling and cleaning
The patented springless sampling mechanism of the DA-130 facilitates an effortless controlled up and down movement of the piston in the sampling pump: Slow to fill the cell with samples which tend to degas, quick to rinse the cell after having measured a sticky product.

More accurate results
Density depends on the temperature. The temperature of the sample must therefore be accurately determined and the measured value must mathematically be converted to the reference temperature using a sample specific temperature compensation coefficient. The auto stability function of the DA-130 makes sure the temperature of the sample is stable when the reading is taken, 10 user defined temperature compensation coefficients provide an accurate conversion of the measured value to the reference temperature.

Printer

IDP-100 Printer

IDP-100 PrinterDot matrix ink printer for GLP compliance.

  • Dot matrix printer with ink ribbon, prints on regular paper (width 57.5 ± 0.5mm).
  • 24 digits, 144 dots per line.
  • Automatic paper end detection – no loss of data!
  • 2 kB internal buffer memory. Advantage: Less time required per measurement, as the instrument does not have to wait until the results are printed out.

IrDA – Serial adapter

IrDA Serial AdapterAdapter required to transmit data from an RA-130 Refractometer or a DA-130N Density Meter to a personal computer or a printer; ordering number 69-00733.

  • In order to connect this IrDA adapter to an IDP-100 printer, a 9 to 25 pin serial adapter (ordering number 64-01127-01) is required.
  • Some laptop computers are already equipped with an IrDA interface. In such cases no IrDA adapter is required.

Serial adapter

RS Serial Adapter9 to 25 pin serial adapter; ordering number  64-01127-01. Required to connect an IrDA adapter to an IDP-100 printer.

Stand and Syringe Adapter

Stand

DA-130N StandThe DA-130N offers many features you would only expect from an expensive bench top density meter – and it often makes perfect sense to use it in the laboratory instead of a bench top unit. With the optional stand the DA-130N has its assigned space on the bench and can permanently be connected to a printer or a personal computer via the optional IrDA interface. All it then takes to convert the DA-130N to a bench top unit is switching its operating mode from ‘Field’ to ‘Labo’: Instead of storing the results in its internal memory, the instrument then automatically transmits them to the printer or personal computer after each single measurement.

Syringe adapter

DA-130N Syringe AdapterThe sampling pump of the DA-130N density meter fills the measuring cell by suction. It allows to pump samples with a viscosity of up to 2000 mPa·s. It is possible to measure higher viscous products with the DA-130N: For this purpose the sampling pump can be locked and the instrument can be fitted with a syringe in order to inject the samples.

Certified Standard Reference Material

Liquid Density Standards

Density Standards TestingJCSS Logo

KEM does not only have several decades of experience in producing digital density meter it also has a JCSS (Japan Calibration Service System) Accredited Calibration Laboratory (assessed on JIS Q 17025:2000 (ISO/IEC 17025:1999) where a wide range of certified liquid density standard reference material is produced. KEM has the JCSS accreditation number 0115.

The density of these standards is determined with by hydrostatic weighing using a mono-cristal silicon body (see picture) and is thus directly traceable to recognized national standards. All standards come with a certificate bearing the JCSS symbol which assures their traceability to National Measurement Standards of Japan which are recognized worldwide through the ILAC and APLAC MRA.

Although calibration with air and water is common practice, regular system performance checks using reference standards has benefits with regard to GLP compliance and traceability of the results to recognized national standards.

Density Standards VialsDensity meters are often used to determine the ethanol content. For this reason, KEM offers a range of certified ethanol / water density standards. The ethanol standards come in three vials of 20 mL each.

Due to their measuring principle, the reading of digital density meters based on an oscillating U-tube is influenced by the viscosity of the measured sample because the oscillation of the U-tube is dampened due to the shear forces that occur in viscous samples. Modern digital density meter can automatically correct for this so called viscosity error. If frequently samples are measured having a viscosity which necessitate a correction of the viscosity error, regular system performance checks using certified density reference material having approximately the same viscosity as the samples should be performed. This is the only way to ensure the viscosity correction of the density meter is working correctly. For this reason KEM is offering certified density standard reference material having different viscosities.
