Product Description

Kyoto Electronics Manufacturing is a renowned specialist for density measurement and the only JCSS (Japan Calibration Service System) accredited supplier of liquid density standards. The DA-640 Density Meter is the result of 3 decades of experience in manufacturing Digital Density Meters and the market experience gained in close cooperation with our customers. It combines the most recent measuring technology with an intuitive user interface in a robust housing.

Highest dependability even in harsh environments
A rugged metal housing and internal high quality shock absorbers protect the sensitive parts of the instrument reliably against damage and minimize measurement errors caused by external influences. An easy to replace fine-dust filter prevents contamination of the internal parts. And last but not least: A new patented reference temperature sensor makes sure variations of the surrounding temperature do not influence the measuring accuracy.

Highest accuracy within the shortest possible time
A new optimized measuring algorithm provides reliable results within less than 30 seconds.

Sampling and drying pumps built-in
High operating comfort without any extra costs – no jumble of cables and tubing.

Easy selection of measuring parameters and measuring methods
It often makes sense to develop a measuring method suitable to measure different types of products, sometimes it is much easier and quicker to change only one parameter without having to edit and store a complete measuring method. With the DA-640 both approaches are possible – according to the individual preferences of the operator or the requirements of the standard operating procedures.

Minimization of error sources
Automatic detection of insufficient cleaning or drying prior to calibration and automatic alerts for regular system performance checks are just two examples of the built-in features the DA-640 Density Meter offers to ensure reliable and traceable results.

API degree or gravity, Brix, Alcohol
The DA-640 Density Meter shows the results directly in the desired unit. It is ideally suited for concentration determinations: Thanks to a special concentration scan function it is not even necessary to manually input concentration tables or formulas – the Density Meter can teach itself how to perform the calculation.

Well equipped for measurements at different temperatures
A calibration at one temperature covers the whole temperature range, a temperature scan function determines the volume expansion and temperature compensation coefficients automatically and heated versions of the automation units allow to measure products which are solid at ambient temperatures.

Energy-efficient
In addition to a low power consumption the DA-640 features an electronic time switch clock for the built-in thermostat. This ensures permanent immediate availability without waste of electricity.

Versatile and customizable
Several interfaces allow the connection of different peripheral devices such as keyboards, memory sticks, barcode scanners, printers, computers and different types of automation units in order to increase the degree of automation, to archive measured data, etc.

Single Sample Automation

DCU-600 Auto Sampling Unit

DCU-600 Auto Sampling Unit

Sampling – measuring – cleaning with up to two solvents and drying: The DCU-600 Auto Sampling unit does not only automate the entire density measuring cycle, it is as well capable of performing calibrations and system performance checks automatically. Sampling is done by aspiration, for the samples different types of containers from 20 mL vials to 100 mL standard beakers can be used. Rinsing can be done with 2 solvents. During the rinsing cycle, the solvents are mixed with air. The resulting turbulent flow increases the efficiency of the rinsing cycles, which means that time required for cleaning and the amount of solvents used is considerably reduced.

The DCU-600 is a cost-effective, compact and and easy to install option for the all DA-6XX density meters, as it uses the built in sampling and drying pumps of the instrument.

Certified Standard Reference Material

Density determination by hydrostatic weighing

Liquid Density Standards

JCSS Logo

KEM does not only have several decades of experience in producing digital density meter it also has a JCSS (Japan Calibration Service System) Accredited Calibration Laboratory (assessed on JIS Q 17025:2000 (ISO/IEC 17025:1999) where a wide range of certified liquid density standard reference material is produced. KEM has the JCSS accreditation number 0115.

The density of these standards is determined with by hydrostatic weighing using a mono-cristal silicon body (see picture) and is thus directly traceable to recognized national standards. All standards come with a certificate bearing the JCSS symbol which assures their traceability to National Measurement Standards of Japan which are recognized worldwide through the ILAC and APLAC MRA.

Although calibration with air and water is common practice, regular system performance checks using reference standards has benefits with regard to GLP compliance and traceability of the results to recognized national standards.

Density standard reference material

Density meters are often used to determine the ethanol content. For this reason, KEM offers a range of certified ethanol / water density standards. The ethanol standards come in three vials of 20 mL each.

Due to their measuring principle, the reading of digital density meters based on an oscillating U-tube is influenced by the viscosity of the measured sample because the oscillation of the U-tube is dampened due to the shear forces that occur in viscous samples. Modern digital density meter can automatically correct for this so called viscosity error. If frequently samples are measured having a viscosity which necessitate a correction of the viscosity error, regular system performance checks using certified density reference material having approximately the same viscosity as the samples should be performed. This is the only way to ensure the viscosity correction of the density meter is working correctly. For this reason KEM is offering certified density standard reference material having different viscosities.
